Structure and facade: Durability and a unified look
A carport has to be durable and to sit properly with the look of the rest of the property.
- The timber frame is our ecological and sustainable choice, which enables versatile and stylish solutions. We use high-quality Finnish timber that stands up to demanding Nordic weather.
- Facade materials are fully customisable. The most common and popular solution is wood cladding (e.g. vertical or horizontal panels), which can be painted exactly to match the main building. The roofing material and roof model (e.g. hipped or gable roof) are also always selected according to the project.
Functionality: Storage and versatility
A modern carport is more than just weather protection. It should serve the residents' everyday lives in a variety of ways.
- Integrated storage is the most popular additional feature. Each parking space can be combined with a separate, lockable storage room (approx. 5–8 m²), which can be either unheated or thermally insulated. That gives residents valuable storage space for tyres, bicycles and hobby gear.
- Multi-use is straightforward: a shared waste store or bicycle shelter can be built into the same structure, so the yard functions sit together instead of scattered around the plot.
Price and budgeting: What makes up the price of a carport?
The final price of a carport is influenced by several factors. When planning your budget, it is a good idea to consider:
- Size and number of parking spaces: The single biggest factor affecting price.
- Specification: the number and type of storage units (unheated or heated) and their doors.
- Material and surface choices: Facade cladding, roofing material and possible other details.
- Foundations and groundworks: The characteristics of the plot affect the extent of the foundation works, which are arranged locally and are not part of the Polarlog delivery.

Do I need planning permission for a carport?
Often, yes. Some carports fall under permitted development rights, but many need planning permission from the local planning authority, and Building Regulations approval can apply separately. The rules differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We supply the drawings to go with your application. Appointing an architect or planning agent to run the application locally is down to the property owner, not us.

How does a carport project run, and how long does it take?
Four stages: design and quotation, then the planning application, then fabrication at our factory, then delivery and erection. Design moves quickly; the planning stage is the variable one, and in England a householder decision normally takes about eight weeks. Delivery dates are agreed with you, and putting the carport up on site usually takes your contractor only a few days.

Can the carport be matched to the house?
Yes, and it is one of the things we are good at. You choose the cladding – vertical or horizontal boarding – along with the colour, the roof shape (hipped or gable) and the roof covering, so the carport sits with the main building instead of against it.

Can I add a store to a carport?
Yes, and most people do. Each bay can have its own store, heated or unheated. It is the cheapest square metreage you will ever add, and it keeps the bikes, mowers and bins out of the weather.

Can you allow for an EV charger?
Yes. We detail the structure up front so the cabling and the charge point go in cleanly later – penetrations and conduit routes are built into the frame. We do not supply the charger itself, but we make sure your electrician has an easy job when the time comes.

What does the delivery package include?
Typically all the structural timber – as panels or as a precut kit – plus cladding, roof structure, the fixings and full erection drawings and instructions. It does not cover foundations, electrical or mechanical work, or decorating, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
