When talking about modern and efficient hall construction, the term "element hall" quickly comes to mind. It is not just a construction method, but an entire philosophy that combines speed, quality control and cost-effectiveness. In Finland, especially, the wooden element hall has become a popular option among industrial, agricultural and private builders. This guide is the ABC of element construction, which explains why a hall assembled from pre-built elements is often the most sensible choice.
What is prefabricated construction?
In its simplest form, prefabricated construction means that a building is not built piece by piece from a "long piece" on site, but is assembled from large, factory-manufactured parts, known as elements. These elements can be entire sections of wall that already have a frame, insulation, windbreaks and even exterior cladding panels.
Once the foundations are complete, the elements are transported to the construction site, where they are lifted into place by crane and connected to each other. This almost brick-like erection method is significantly faster than traditional construction.
Why choose a wooden prefabricated hall?
Although halls are made from many materials, wooden elements offer a unique combination of advantages:
- Unparalleled speed: Since the walls and roof structures are manufactured in the factory while the foundations are being built on site, there is a huge saving in time. The hall frame can be protected from the weather in just a few days.
- Consistent and high quality: Construction in the dry and warm interior of the factory ensures that the structures are not exposed to rain or moisture during the construction phase. The dimensional accuracy and workmanship are top-notch.
- Cost-effectiveness: Shorter erection time on site means lower labor costs and shorter construction loan requirements. Material waste is minimal.
- Ecology and sustainability: Wood is a renewable resource that absorbs carbon dioxide throughout its life cycle. It is a durable and strong material that is excellent for load-bearing structures.
- Customizability: Although the elements are prefabricated, they do not mean boring standard models. A good supplier will design the hall completely according to the customer's dimensions, needs and wishes - from the locations of door and window openings to the division of interior spaces.
Prefabricated hall construction process in stages
- Design and tenders: The project begins with a needs assessment and draft plans. At this stage, element suppliers are put out to tender and a building permit is applied for.
- Construction of foundations: Once the permits are in place, earthworks and foundation work will begin on the construction site.
- Manufacturing of elements: At the same time as the foundations, the hall elements are manufactured at the factory according to the agreed schedule.
- Installation of elements: Once the foundations are complete, the elements are delivered to the construction site. Erection by crane is the most spectacular and fastest phase of the project.
- Finishing the roof and exterior cladding: Once the frame is upright, the roof trusses, roof covering and exterior cladding are installed, protecting the building from the weather.
- Interior work and finishing: In the final stage, doors and windows are installed, HVAC and electrical work is carried out, and any interior walls and floors are built.
What is a wooden prefabricated hall best suited for?
The flexibility of wooden element construction makes it a suitable solution for numerous projects:
- Industrial and warehouse halls: Spacious and cost-effective spaces for production and logistics.
- Agricultural buildings: Machine sheds, animal shelters and warehouses.
- Hobby and work spaces: Spacious garages, workshops and hobby halls.
- Riding stables and sports halls: Long spans allow for the creation of large, unified spaces.
The most important points
- Speed is key: Prefabricated construction significantly reduces the time spent on site and speeds up project completion.
- Quality is created in the factory: Controlled factory conditions guarantee a dimensionally accurate and moisture-proof end result.
- Wood is an ecological choice: A wooden prefabricated hall is a sustainable and environmentally friendly investment.
- Tailored to your needs: Don't settle for a standard model – a prefabricated hall can be designed completely according to your own measurements and wishes.
- Compare delivery contents: When requesting quotes, make sure to check exactly what is included in the package price, from the foundations to the final sheets.
